According to AAA, approximately 48.7 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from their homes over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. If AAA’s estimate is correct, the number of people traveling this Thanksgiving will have increased by 1 million, or 1.9 percent, over last year. This would mean that this year will have the most Thanksgiving travelers since 2007.

Everyone at our Burlington, MA area BMW dealership is excited that so many people will be traveling on or between November 23 and November 27, 2016. We’re also excited about the reasons that AAA says more individuals will be hitting the roads, runways, and rails this year. These reasons include:

  • Economic improvements in the second half of 2016
  • Increased spending by consumers
  • Improved consumer confidence

Even though the national average gas price has increased incrementally in recent months, AAA estimates that drivers have still saved more than $28 billion on gas this year compared to the same time in 2015. Partially due to gas prices still hovering around $2 per gallon in many locations throughout the country, the most popular form of transportation over Thanksgiving will be driving, with about 89 percent of travelers taking to the roadways.

With so many people hitting the road to reach their holiday destinations, there are bound to be a few drivers who encounter trouble on the road. AAA anticipates having to help over 370,000 stranded drivers over Thanksgiving this year. The main reasons AAA expects drivers to have difficulties are dead batteries, flat tires, and lockouts.

Whether you drive one of our new or pre-owned BMW models, you can guard against having trouble on the road by bringing your vehicle into our BMW service center so we can make sure your car is ready for the rigors of the road.
